But safety is so much more than policies and procedures. Our safety culture is successful because people at every level of the organization lead through example. We believe this is the way we will continue to develop and strengthen our thriving safety culture. Recent Achievements
We will constantly strive to achieve zero incidents in all of our workplaces and commit to never compromise safety regardless of the circumstances.
- In 2020 and 2021 Flynn Spokane won AGC safety awards for maintaining superior safety records
- In September 2021 Flynn Regina achieved ten years with no lost time injuries.
- In December 2017 Flynn Calgary achieved one million hours with no lost time injuries.
- In July, 2017 our Prairies Region (Manitoba and Saskatchewan) celebrated three years of no lost time incidents.
- On the Humber River Hospital Project in Toronto Ontario, we received an award in recognition for safety excellence for achieving 5 million hours without lost time incident.

We have created several awards to continually drive safe work practices and recognize the champions of health and safety at Flynn.
Don Flynn Safety Awards
Named after our company founder, the Don Flynn Safety Awards are the ultimate prize at Flynn. Each year, two branches with the top health and safety performances have a celebration in recognition of their hard work and dedication to our thriving safety culture. This highly sought-after trophy is displayed in their offices until the new winners are announced.
The Don Flynn Safety Award Trophy
Don Toney was commissioned to create this work of art. Over the course of many months, he consulted with Flynn staff to understand our people, our equipment and the work we do.
The original concept for this trophy consisted of a montage of workers representing the various tasks carried out each day on our construction sites. The photos and technical advice the artist received from our people brought that concept to life in sculptural form. There were 20+ molds of workers made for these sculptures, each weighing in at just under 110 pounds of solid bronze.
The trophies reflect the spirit and hard work everyone invests in order to earn them.
Manufacturing Safety Award
At Flynn safety will always be our top priority, not only in the field and office but in our manufacturing facilities too. That’s why we celebrate safety excellence with our Manufacturing Safety Award. This award is available to any one of our manufacturing facilities across Flynn further emphasizing the importance role safety plays in our culture and our lives.
Life Saver Award
Our Lifesaver Award is given to Flynn employees who have used their safety training to help save a life. in 2016, Nate Wyman (shown in photo) from our Kansas City branch found a man unconscious with no pulse and began performing CPR. EMT’s who arrived on site said his actions saved the gentleman’s life.
Branch Safety Leader
At the branch level, we recognize individuals at each Flynn location whose behaviours and contributions have made an exceptional difference to health & safety in the workplace and to Flynn’s culture of safety.
Winners are nominated by their peers, and receive the award at each branch’s annual Safety Day meeting.
